A tricky thing creative partnerships. How I have longed to have a creative partner. Once and rather dangerously I yeared for a two inone job a creative partner and a partner in life. I call them tricky because looking back on my life I am aware that part of the yearing is to have someone else do all the hard work it is a desire to abdicate responsibility for what has to be done. Especially as a filmmaker wanting someone else to get the finance or organisation right for example. However when they work it is in the area where 'to heads better than one' especially creating proposals intuitive leaps of creativity to solutions and filling in the gaps where others lack strength. They also work well were boundaries are clear and one person isn't yearing to be something else or that there are any 'shadow artist' issues. (Shadow artists are people who are not artists but hang around people who are living by proxy instead of getting on with it).
When choosing a partner it is very important to choose with all ones intuition working well and to LISTEN to one's inner radar. Each time I've failed to do so I've become horribly unstuck. Also listening to a friend who enters many creative partnerships as part of her work I can instanteously pinpoint a partnership will not work for her. Interestingly money will usually be the factor which keeps her in the partnership even when years grind past and nothing has been produced from it. My instincts on this are so good franly I should be paid to do it !
Oh well someone recently came to me with a few business ideas and I'm meeting them for coffee it will be interesting to do the same for myself.
