It would be easier to roll up the entire sky into a small cloth than it would be to obtain true happiness without knowing the Self
Upanishads
When I started meditating, I was filled with anxieties and fears. I felt a sense of depression and anger.
I often took out this anger on my first wife. After I had been meditating for about two weeks, she came to me and said, “ What’s going on?” I was quiet for a moment. But finally I said, “What do you mean?” And she said, “ This anger, where did it go?” And I hadn’t even realised that it had lifted.
I call that depression and anger the Suffocating Rubber Clown Suit of Negativity. It’s suffocating, and that rubber stinks. But once you start meditating and diving within, the clown suit starts to dissolve. You finally realize how putrid was the stink when it starts to go. Then, when it dissolves, you have freedom.
Anger and depression and sorrow are beautiful things in a story, but they’re like poison to a filmmaker or artist. They’re like a vice grip on creativity. If you’re in that grip, you can hardly get out of bed, much less experience the flow of creativity and ideas. You must have clarity to create. You have to be able to catch ideas.

Please read Havi's fantastic take on this question which comes up again and again for creative types.

Rather nice article about apple scrumping in urban areas in the Independent.
Made me think of my apple crumble recipe.
Large dollup of butter or oil in a pan. Add oats, add a bit of sugar (optional) add spices like cinnamon, all spice or ginger.
Meanhile core but don't peel apples chop and place on bottom of pie dish. Sprinke with bare minum of sugar or add dried raisns (don't need sugar if have raisins). Put the oatmeal mix on top. Put in medium oven for about 30 mins serve with, creame frache/ cream/ ice cream/ custard. Good in tiny pots for lunch puddings the next day.

I am falling in love
with my imperfections
The way I never get the sink really clean,
forget to check my oil,
lose my car in parking lots,
miss appointments I have written down,
am just a little late.
I am learning to love
the small bumps on my face
the big bump of my nose,
my hairless scalp,
chipped nail polish,
toes that overlap.
Learning to love
the open-ended mysteryof not knowing why
I am learning to fail
to make lists,
use my time wisely,
read the books I should.
Instead I practice inconsistency,
irrationality, forgetfulness.
Probably I should
hang my clothes neatly in the closet
all the shirts together, then the pants,s
end Christmas cards, or better yet
a letter telling ofmy perfect family
But I’d rather waste time
listening to the rain,
or lying underneath my cat
learning to purr.
