Get Excited and

chicken & noodles

In The Light Ahead,  which I introduced on Sunday at the Filmhouse, there was a scene where some characters sit down to chicken and noodles which they eat from one communal pot with wooden carved spoons. How authentic is this about life in the shetel I don't know as the film made in 1939 was filmed outside New York. But it got me thinking about Claudia Roden and her fabulous book of Jewish Cookery. And I googled a bit and found this great article about her in the New Yorker - Spice Routes - Claudia Roden's Culinary Dispora.

Stella Marrs

The brilliant Stella Marrs - whenever I see her postcards I buy as many as possible - great interview  with her here.

This rather odd May contines - odd in that the weather is so un-may like. I'm still with a big scarf to work and no sandals yet. Perfect knitting weather so perusing Kaffe Fassetf for inspiration.

how to write

living small

Been busy working and socialising and more working. Trying to catch up with myself today. Supermarket shopping followed by cake making. I'm maing my favourite choc / almond cake for a friend whose birthday it has been recently. I'm going to wrap it in greeseproof paper and take it to the Cameo Cinema where we are going to see In the Loop.

My plan was to be very houseweifly this afternoon incluiding unblocking a small sink but I fogot the crcuial bircarboate of soda when at the supermarket. I did however remember the baking parchment and bought more plants, strawberries and more sweetpeas as I think the torrential rain on friday has pretty much destroyed the ones I planted.

No photies as I have a bit of a photo issue going on with blog.

Meanwhile Living Small blog which I've rediscovered.
